Make the most of each season.
Every season is an opportunity for a fresh start in the year and a little perspective change. New seasons and changes in weather can align with new seasons in life, whether be in your relationships, career, personal development or your current mindset. Starting off a new season with realistic planning can help you implement new habits, achieve new goals or simply check off some fun seasonal activities to enjoy in the coming months.
With April right around the corner we can prepare for all that Spring brings us. The shift in harsh winter cold, to light, fresh, spring air, budding blossoms, waking up to birds singing and some light showers.
Here are some fun activities you can add to your Spring bucket list this new season.
1. See the cherry blossoms bloom
Spring, when the blossoms bloom. Depending on where you live, you may find the beauty of cherry blossom trees blooming in the coming months. Check out your local community to see if you can find these beautiful, budding trees near you. If you’re near the city of Toronto, you can be sure to check out the annual Cherry Blossom trees at High Park or University of Toronto Scarborough.
2. Visit the Farmer’s Market
Check out your local farmer’s markets to get fresh produce grown close to home. Farmer’s markets often have fun food trucks and great music so make a day out of it!
3. Wake up early to go bird watching
Wake up early and hear the birds singing where they find that the morning air best carries their songs. Bird watching is best at early times of the day, but make sure to stay quiet so you don’t scare them off. Depending on the bird you hope to spot and their habitat, try your local trails near forests to spot these cool creatures.
4. Make a bird feeder
Now its not often recommended to feed wild animals. The more we feed wild animals, the more dependent they become on us as well as missing out on the nutrients they need from their diet they seek on their own. However, if you’re feeding birds a decent quality food and keeping your distance, I think a feeder is fun for both you and the wild.
5. Garden or grow a new plant (indoors or outdoors)
Whether you have an outdoor garden or a space to grow plants indoors, try creating a herb garden, flower garden or simply caring for any plants that you desire (or that fit you aesthetic).
6. Watch the sunset or sunrise
When the sun starts to set later and the darkness doesn’t take over the mornings, wake up early to start your day catching the sunrise or end your day off with a stroll watching the sunset.
7. Have a picnic
Enjoy the cool spring weather by taking your lunch outdoors. Pack up your sandwiches, lemonade, fruits and charcuterie board and pick a scenic location while catching some fresh air and sun.
8. Decorate Easter eggs
Join in festive fun to celebrate Easter with a mindless, calming activity of decorating Easter eggs.
9. Bake cookies
Try a new spring themed recipe and bake some tasty cookies this weekend. Try this lemon cookie recipe, perfect to get into the spring mood.
10. Dance in the rain
April showers, bring May flowers. Rainy days might make you stay indoors but what about dancing in the rain? Let go, bring out your inner child and get soaked in the rain.
11. Host a community spring clean up
Spring clean up is not limited to your home but can go beyond your house. Gather your community together to clean your neighbourhood (parks, ravines, paths etc.) by picking up litter.
12. Spring clean up your home
Although you may clean your home regularly, take the time during Spring to deep clean- all corners and crevasses, de-clutter and get rid of junk- all of it and more.
13. Host a high tea with your friends or family
High tea is a fun activity and an opportunity to dress up and have a girls weekend! Create a high tea experience at home with scones, different flavours of teas and sandwiches or look for local high-tea experiences near you. Try out this one in Toronto at the Old Mill.
14. Make a flower arrangement
You may not know all too much about types of flowers and such but you might have fun putting flowers together to make your own bouquet. A fun and rewarding activity to get creative with nature! And while you’re at it, why not visit a local flower boutique to purchase your flowers and support local! A win-win activity!
