- Catch the summer sunsets and sunrises- Get up early to wake up with the sun with a sunrise or end your day with a summer sunset. Research scenic lookouts near you to get the best view.
- Go for an evening drive- Evening drives are one of my favorite thing to do in the summer- to hop in the car and simply drive with no destination in the evening with the windows down. The breeze is cooler, the sun is setting and the roads are empty.
- Visit your local beach- spend the day at your nearest beach. Pack your beach towel and some cold snacks to soak up the sun and plunge in the cold waters.
- Explore local trails near you- Adventure in nature and re-discover your neighbourhood with local trails and conservations. Sometimes, provincial or national parks offer hikes led by tour guides for free! Discover nature trails near you and what they have to offer.
- Go bird watching- While at your local conservation, stay quiet and be still to watch for birds in their habitat. If welcomed and allowed, bring bird feed along to see song birds up close. (Always review your local conservation policies and safety protocols.)
- Picnic- Take your lunch outdoors and have a picnic at a scenic location.
- Garden- The Earth is in your hands. Get creative with nature and create your own garden. Asking colleagues or neighbours for plant cuttings is an easy way to start growing plants of your own.
- Read- Read a book outdoors and enjoy natures warmth and sounds.
- Visit a farmer’s market or street festival- Find festivities and markets near you. Often these events are are free to enter and simply wandering through the event can be entertaining enough without having to spend any money!
- Volunteer- Dedicate your time by giving back! Volunteer your gifts, talents and abilities to stay busy this summer and help others within your community.
Summer is often an incredibly fun season but can lead to busy weekends week after week! Many plans with friends and family can often require you to spend money. Consider some of these free activities to try to still enjoy what summer has to offer without breaking the bank.
